About the work

Planning your
subfloor prep & leveling.

The floor underneath your finish flooring affects the installation above it. Residue, low areas, seams, damaged sections, or movement can require different preparation steps. A surface that is flat enough for one flooring system may not be ready for another.

Prime evaluates preparation in the context of the selected installation. The scope may involve cleaning, local patching, compatible underlayment, or leveling work after conditions are reviewed. Making a floor flat for installation and making an entire building level are different requests, so the intended result needs to be clear.

The right starting point

Projects to discuss

  • Preparation before hardwood, vinyl, laminate, carpet, or tile installation
  • Localized surface corrections and transition-height planning
  • Renovations where removal exposes uneven or damaged substrate areas

Before the estimate

What shapes the work

  • Required flatness and substrate type for the selected flooring
  • High and low areas, movement, residue, cracks, and visible damage
  • Moisture conditions, floor heights, material compatibility, and the extent of concealed work

Assess visible irregularities and choose the preparation scope appropriate to the substrate.

  3. 03

    Prepare and reassess

Complete the agreed corrections and review readiness before the finish floor proceeds.
