About the work

Planning your
flooring removal.

Carpet, floating planks, adhered vinyl, hardwood, and tile require different removal methods. Adhesive residue and underlying layers may need further work before the area is ready for a replacement floor.

Prime reviews the visible flooring, available history, disposal needs, and intended replacement before defining removal labor. The estimate should distinguish lifting the existing material from adhesive cleanup, substrate repair, leveling, and other work needed to make the area ready for installation.

The right starting point

Projects to discuss

  • Floor replacement projects requiring existing material removal
  • Selective removal in rooms or defined renovation areas
  • Projects coordinating demolition with subsequent preparation and installation

Before the estimate

What shapes the work

  • Existing flooring type, attachment method, age if known, and number of layers
  • Substrate condition that is visible or known from previous work
  • Stairs, access routes, occupied areas, disposal arrangements, and replacement-floor requirements

Project steps

How the work
is planned.

The sequence depends on the material, site conditions, and the work agreed for your project.

  1. 01

    Understand the existing layers

Review material history and visible conditions before agreeing on the removal approach.

  2. 02

    Set the work boundaries

Define removal limits, protection, debris handling, and the condition expected at handoff.

  3. 03

    Review the exposed base

After removal, identify any concealed substrate work that needs an agreed next step.
