Repair & Specialty / Connecticut

Stairs & Runnersin Connecticut.

Stair and runner installation planned around tread shape, turns, material fit, and finishing details.

Patterned stair runner centered on wood steps with exposed edges and white risers.
A fitted stair runner with exposed wood tread edges.

About the work

Planning your
stairs & runners.

Stairs require their own measurements and installation plan. Tread depth, risers, nosings, landings, turns, and open sides can all change the fitting work. A runner also needs a clear decision about width, placement, edge finishing, and how it continues through the staircase.

Prime reviews the staircase and selected material before establishing the labor scope. Carpet runners, full carpet coverage, and hard-surface stair work have different requirements. The estimate should identify the system being installed, the condition of the stairs below, and the finishing details included.

The right starting point

Projects to discuss

  • Carpet runners and full stair-carpet fitting
  • Landings and turned staircases with a measured fitting plan
  • Hard-surface stair requests after the material and staircase are reviewed

Before the estimate

What shapes the work

  • Number and shape of steps, landings, turns, nosings, and exposed edges
  • Runner construction, pattern, width, binding, or selected hard-surface stair system
  • Existing coverings, stair condition, adjoining floors, and access during installation

Project steps

How the work
is planned.

The sequence depends on the material, site conditions, and the work agreed for your project.

  1. 01

    Measure the staircase

Review each stair section, landing, turn, and exposed edge rather than relying on a step count alone.

  2. 02

    Set the fitting details

Agree on runner placement or stair-system components and any preparation or finishing work.

  3. 03

    Install and finish

Fit the selected material and complete the edges and connections defined in the estimate.
